Notes from other groups-
Most groups had interview structure but focused on creating an exciting theatrical piece not just speaking, some groups were interactive to include the audience which was fun.
Royal court likes violent shows
Skinner stopped shaving and conforming to beauty standards
She thought she would have to scrap the play if Hilary Clinton won as a woman would be breaking the glass ceiling but she didn't
Penelope Skinner was born in 1978, she is a British playwright. Her plays have been performed in the Bush Theatre, the National Theatre, the Edinburgh festival and the Royal Court. Her first play Fucked was put on in 2008 and the Old Red Lion. Skinner is a feminist who wants to emphasise female empowerment through plays.
The Royal Court theatre was built in 1870 and rebuilt twice in 1888 and again in 2000. It was damaged by a world war 2 bomb. They call themselves 'the writers theatre' because they show work from undiscovered cultivating writers. They create provocative theatre to 'change our way of seeing'.
My research-
Why do we stereotype young girls and instill the idea that being pretty is more important than being smart, that growing old is wrong and that venturing out of the box of femininity isn’t right, if we didn’t enforce these stereotypes would women be so afraid of ageing and have such high standards of themselves and also why do we teach them to be ‘girly’ but prey on feminine girls and objectify them demeaning them as women.
-90% of women in restaurant jobs that rely on tips report being sexually harassed at work
-Do girls have higher standard placed on them than men in order to get ahead
-Why are women still seen as the housewife but also the bread winner
Does getting old really change anything about the way we are viewed in society,
-six out of 10 women over 27 number one beauty concern is ageing
- 8 out of 10 over 34
- 10 out of 10 over 50
-Do men suffer as much as women for the same things
-Do Men in power abuse it in hopes for sex,
-Why are women so underrepresented and over sexualised in the media if they weren't would these issues such as sexism and ageism exist
-95% of Europe's ad champagnes in 2001 were aimed at under 50’s yet 21% of the population is over 50
- 94% of women over 50 said society should change their views to growing old
- dove pro age campaign showed women over 50 naked and tried to show that growing old doesn’t mean becoming worthless or ugly however it was banned in the us for showing too much skin but they’re perfectly fine sexualising a younger girls body.
-Is there Suicide cycle where if a child's parent dies they never learn how to parent
-Page 38- do we have too high expectations from the media of life we can't just be content and happy life has to be more than that People never really get what they really want, Amy wants to be Linda but not old, - this also applies with people as you have to be enough for people for them to want you and to stay with you- Linda's dad said ‘when your husband fucks another woman you’ve only got yourself to blame’ when Neil cheats on her.
-Do businesses only care about selling and creating profit not the effects they and their advertising campaigns have on people and the negative way they make people think, companies don’t care about the consequences. We have turned into such a capitalist society people are only used for money and those who want to change are looked down upon.
